American Idol Top 7 (Where They Stand)

The theme for next week's American Idol performances is "Songs from Cinema". The contestants will be mentored (and possibly judged) by film director, Quentin Tarantino. Here is my quick rundown of how I think the Top 7 contestants stand so far:


1.) Adam Lambert
Despite my dislike for Adam, I cannot deny that he is the obvious front-runner in this competition. Every week he brings something unique and interesting and shows off his amazing vocal range. Last week's standing ovation from Simon was basically his ticket to the finals.


2.) Danny Gokey
Not a big Danny fan either, but it is highly likely that he will be joining Adam in the finals. He knows how to pour his emotions into each performance and the judges "pimp" him out week after week.


3.) Kris Allen
After a risky arrangement that wasn't well received by the judges last week, Kris needs to get back on track. With a handful of great performances under his belt and a growing fan base, Kris has a good chance at making the Top 3 as long as he delivers some more great performances.



4.) Allison Iraheta
As long as the judges continue to recognize her incredible vocals and not focus on her outfit (or her "likability" according to Simon), then Allison might very well be the only the female contestant to crack the Top 5.


5.) Matt Giraud
Last week Matt got his groove back and the judges seem to have jumped back aboard. If Matt continues perform good songs with an R&B / soul flavor, he will likely make it into the Top 5.


6.) Anoop Desai
Even after a rather good performance last week, Anoop landed in the bottom two (and was only 30K votes from getting voted off). His performances have been inconsistent and the judges haven't been completely sold on him yet. It also doesn't help that he is probably spitting votes between Matt and Kris. Anoop will have to deliver another good performance on Tuesday if he wants to stay another week.


7.) Lil Rounds
After getting torn apart by the judges last week, Lil promised to really "wow" the judges with her next performance. But can we really count on this promise? Since making the Top 13, Lil has failed to deliver an outstanding, or even memorable performance. If she doesn't pull something really incredible this week, she will likely be voted off on Wednesday.

To sum up, here is how I think the contestants stand right now:

4.) Allison Iraheta
5.) Matt Giraud
6.) Anoop Desai
7.) Lil Rounds
