82nd Academy Awards to Feature 10 Best Picture Nominees

Yesterday, the
Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences President Sid Ganis announced that the 82nd Academy Awards (which will be presented on March 7, 2010) will have 10 feature films competing in the Best Picture category. In his statement Ganis said:
"After more than six decades, the Academy is returning to some of its earlier roots, when a wider field competed for the top award of the year...The final outcome, of course, will be the same – one Best Picture winner – but the race to the finish line will feature 10, not just five, great movies from 2009."

Typically, only five films compete for the top prize at the annual
Academy Awards. The last year to have an expanded list of nominees was 1943 during the 16th Academy Awards when Casablanca won over nine other candidates.

What do you guys think of the decision to include 10 films in the Best Picture category? Do think it was fine with only 5? Will it allow a more diverse array of movies to be nominated (i.e. action or animation films)? Are there any movies that already came out that you think have a great shot and being nominated for Best Picture next year? Feel free to share your thoughts!
