10 Best 80's Hair Metal Songs

Originally posted: January 19, 2008

As some of you guys may know, one of my favorite genre's of music is what I like to call "80's Hair Metal" (also referred to as 'glam rock'). A genre filled with long teased hair, make-up, leather pants & headbands...and lyrics that almost always focused on sex, drugs, and alcohol. How can you NOT enjoy this kind of music? Anyway...here are my Top 10 80's Hair Metal Songs. Feel free to let me know what you think!

10. Cum on Feel the Noize - Quiet Riot
So I did not even know this was a cover song until recently. But I heard the original song (which is by a band called Slade), and it just doesn't get me as pumped as the Quiet Riot version. Despite this being their only song I know...I still love rockin' out to it.

9. Pour Some Sugar On Me - Def Leppard
Simple drum beats. Awesome guitar riffs. Catchy hook. Sexual messages...What more could I ask for in an 80's rock song?

8. Rock You Like a Hurricane - The Scorpions
My favorite thing about 80's rock songs is that they get me pumped...and nothing gets me more pumped than listening to this song. I especially dig the amazing guitar playing (those of you that play Guitar Hero 3 know exactly what I am talking about).

7. Here I Go Again - Whitesnake
Is it bad that hearing this song makes me think of Will Ferrell in Old School, rather than the hot girl dancing on the hood of classic cars in the music video?? Either way, this song is amazing (and sends surprisingly optimistic message).

6. Kickstart My Heart - Motley Crue
Probably the "heaviest" song on the list. Motley Crue was definitely the most "bad ass" band of this genre. Amazing vocals and amazing guitar work. Yet another song that never fails to get me pumped.

5. Nothin' But a Good Time - Poison
So when you are not wasting your time watching Bret Michaels on VH1's Rock of Love...I highly suggest turning off your TV and checking out his band, Poison. This song is bound to put you in a better mood.

4. You Give Love a Bad Name - Bon Jovi
It amazes me to see bands like Bon Jovi still rockin' out today. This is probably one of the most played songs on my iPod. I dare you to listen to it, without getting it stuck in your head.

3. Panama - Van Halen
There is no denying that Van Halen is one of the greatest hard rock bands of all time. This song epitomizes what 80's rock is all about. Eddie Van Halen's guitar playing never fails to amaze me.

2. Sweet Child O' Mine - Guns N' Roses
In my opinion, this is one of the greatest songs of all-time. It features probably the most recognizable guitar riff ever, Axel's signature vocals, and Slash's amazing guitar solos.

1. Livin' On a Prayer - Bon Jovi
That's right...two Bon Jovi songs in my Top 5. What can I say? Bon Jovi rocked the 80's. I guarantee that if you play this song with a large group of people, EVERYONE will be singing along. Trust me...it's my ringtone :-)
