My Top 5 Heroes

5. Jack Bauer
Featured in: 24 (TV)
Portrayed by: Kiefer Sutherland
Jack Bauer doesn't play by the rules. He is willing to do anything and everything to protect the U.S. from terrorist scumbags, whether that means defusing bombs or using unethical interrogation methods against suspects. After seven seasons of 24, Jack is still kicking ass and taking names.

4. Han Solo
Featured in: Star Wars Trilogy (original)
Portrayed by: Harrison Ford
Initially Han Solo may come across as a cocky / sarcastic smuggler, but he has got the skills to back it up. Despite the slight set back of being frozen in carbonite, he eventually escapes, leads the Rebel Alliance to victory, and gets the girl in the end. Well done, sir.

3. James Bond
Featured in: Dr. No (First James Bond film) 22 total films.
Portrayed by: Sean Connery, George Lazenby, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton, Pierce Brosnan, Daniel Craig.
The originator of the "action-hero" film genre. Fast cars, high-tech gadgets, beautiful women, fine drinks, and witty one-liners...Bond has got it all.

2. Indiana Jones
Featured in: Raiders of the Lost Ark, Temple of Doom, and The Last Crusade...oh, and that other one ;-)
Portrayed by: Harrison Ford
One minute he is a college professor teaching archaeology, the next minute he is traveling the world on a dangerous adventure against Nazis. He's smart, he's tough, he's fearless, and he is virtually invincible.

1. Batman
Featured in: DC comics, Batman (TV series), Batman, Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, etc.
Portrayed by: (most notable) Adam West, Michael Keaton, Christian Bale
Probably the most recognizable superhero in popular culture (with the exception of maybe Superman). But what sets Batman apart from most comic-book heroes is his lack of superhuman powers. His ability to fight crime without super strength or super speed (or whatever) makes him the most effective and relatable "superhero" and in my opinion the greatest hero in pop culture.
My Top 5 Villains

5. Jack Torrance
Featured in: The Shining
Portrayed by: Jack Nicholson
"All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy."
Jack Nicholson's puts on a rather haunting performance as a disturbed writer driven to insanity from being isolated in a haunted hotel.

4. Norman Bates
Featured in: Psycho (+ sequels)
Portrayed by: (most notable) Anthony Perkins
"A boy's best friend is his mother."
Although he may seem rather harmless at first, Norman Bates is psychologically disturbed maniac driven by obsession and sexual desires. In my opinion, he is Hitchcock's finest villain.

3. The Joker
Featured in: Batman, The Dark Knight
Portrayed by: Jack Nicholson, Heath Ledger
"I believe whatever doesn't kill you, simply makes you...stranger."
Probably Batman's greatest, most recognizable rival. Heath Ledger's chilling portrayal of The Joker in The Dark Knight truly captured the insanity and evil of this violent and ruthless villain.

2. Hannibal Lecter
Featured in: The Silence of the Lambs, Hannibal, Red Dragon, etc.
Portrayed by: (most notable) Anthony Hopkins
"A census taker once tried to test me. I ate his liver with some fava beans and a nice chianti."
A brilliant psychiatrist turned cannibalistic serial killer. One of the few villains to use their intelligence as a weapon.

1. Darth Vader
Featured in: Star Wars Trilogy (original) + Episode III: Revenge of the Sith
Portrayed by: James Earl Jones (voice), David Prowse (body)
"Give yourself to the Dark Side."
From an innocent little slave boy to a heroic Jedi Knight to an evil, ruthless Sith Lord. Darth Vader looks, sounds, and even breathes evil.
There you have it. My Top 5 Heroes / Villains. Feel free to share your favorites!
