So yesterday I was watching VH1's Top 100 Songs of the 90's, and I started to feel a little nostalgic. So I decided to put together a list of my own. This list isn't exactly the "Top Songs of the 90's", but rather a list of the 20 songs of the 90's that were meaningful to me when I was younger (and even now). So I present to you, "20 Songs of My Childhood":
20. Peaches - The Presidents of the United States of America
A really bizarre song about peaches by a relatively unknown band. As a little kid I found it comical and catchy, and today it still gets plays on my iPod.
19. Fly - Sugar Ray
I am convinced that almost everyone was a Sugar Ray fan in grade school. This song in particular reminds me of grade school because we used to listen to it during gym class when we ran laps.
18. All Mixed Up - 311
Probably one of my earliest exposures to a rock song with elements of reggae/rap. As you will see, that becomes an ongoing trend throughout the list.
17. Bullet With Butterfly Wings - The Smashing Pumpkins
The first song I ever heard by the Pumpkins. Why wouldn't I like a hard rock song from a Chicago band that made a cameo on The Simpsons? But I think what REALLY attracted me to this song the most is the repeated lyric, "Despite all my rage I'm still just a rat in a cage".

16. Nookie - Limp Bizkit
Looking back at these songs, I am realizing that a lot of these songs have explicit messages. A lot of the messages are pretty subtle...but this song is just straight up vulgar. Nevertheless, this song marked my the beginning of my "angry rap/rock stage".
15. Cowboy - Kid Rock
Another song from my "angry rap/rock stage". I'm not really sure why I was so into Limp Bizkit and Kid Rock, but at least it served as a good transition into my eventual obsession with Eminem.
14. Jeremy - Pearl Jam
My older brother, who first got me into alternative music at a young age, was also responsible for introducing me to Pearl Jam. It was then that I realized that almost every singer in an alternative band was an "Eddie Vedder wanna-be".
13. The Distance - Cake
Yet another bizarre song that I was hooked on as a kid. Although the entire song made no sense to me, it was still one of my favorites. It is only now that I realize how awesome and unique this band really is.
12. Don't Speak - No Doubt
My sister was a huge No Doubt fan when we were younger, so it was inevitable for me to get into them as well. 'Don't Speak' is a very emotional and well written song, and listening to it now really makes me miss the days before Gwen Stefani's solo career.
11. Push - Matchbox 20
I remember hearing this song on the radio almost every time we were in a car, and it would always get in my head. Too bad the only lyrics I knew were, "I wanna push you around, well I will, well I will"...
10. Ironic - Alanis Morissette
Another musical interest influenced by sister. The lyrics of this song are brilliant...but of course I did not notice that when I was little...
9. The Difference - The Wallflowers
Yet another band that I got into with the influence of my sister. Just a simple, catchy pop-rock song.
8. Pretty Fly (For a White Guy) - The Offspring
This song was hilarious, popular, and catchy. As a kid, that is exactly what I was looking for in my music.
7. Comedown - Bush
Bush was one of my favorite bands when I was growing up. For some reason I was really into British rock?
6. Whoever You Are - Geggy Tah
This is probably one of the weirdest songs on this list. Not many people have heard this song before but I guarantee you that if you listen to it, you will find yourself singing along.
5. Semi-Charmed Life - Third Eye Blind
Probably one of the catchiest songs of the 90's...But of course it isn't until now that I find out it is a song about a crystal meth addiction / sexual activities.
4. Wrong Way - Sublime
A super catchy ska song from a legendary band. Little did I know that the song is about a messed up girl who became a prostitute...But despite the adult messages in their songs, I was a big fan of Sublime when I was younger.
3. Adam's Song - Blink 182
Blink 182 will always be my all time favorite band. Although it is not a typical Blink song, it is still one of my favorites. It is a very sad song with a lot of meaning. (It is also the first song I learned how to play on the guitar).
2. Champagne Supernova - Oasis
Despite being over 7 minutes long, I used to listen to this song almost everyday. Of course, there are several references to "getting high" that I was completely oblivious to. And it is not until I started playing guitar that I noticed how amazing the guitar solo is in this song.
1. Good Riddance (Time of Your Life) - Green Day
I particularly remember when NBC played this song over clips of Seinfeld before airing the final episode of the series (as well as many people relating the song to our 8th grade graduation haha). Although this song is a complete departure from Green Day's normal sound, it will forever be one of my all time favorite songs.
