Fall Movie Previews

The previews before Public Enemies featured some great-looking movies that are coming out this fall. Here are some of the notable ones that I am excited to check out:

Shutter Island (October 2, 2009)

Starring: Leonardo DiCaprio, Mark Ruffalo, Ben Kingsley, Michelle Williams
Director: Martin Scorsese
Plot Summary: The story of two U.S. marshals, Teddy Daniels (DiCaprio) and Chuck Aule (Mark Ruffalo), who are summoned to a remote and barren island off the cost of Massachusetts to investigate the mysterious disappearance of a murderess from the island's fortress-like hospital for the criminally insane (comingsoon.net)

Award-winning director Martin Scorsese teams up with Leonardo DiCaprio yet again...this time to take on a creepy psychological thriller.


The Informant! (October 9, 2009)

Starring: Matt Damon, Scott Bakula, Joel McHale
Director: Steven Soderbergh
Plot Summary: A rising star at agri-industry giant Archer Daniels Midland (ADM), Whitacre suddenly turns whistle blower. Even as he exposes his company's multi-national price-fixing conspiracy to the FBI, Whitacre envisions himself being hailed as a hero of the common man and handed a promotion. But before all that can happen, the FBI needs evidence, so Whitacre eagerly agrees to wear a wire and carry a hidden tape recorder in his briefcase, imagining himself as a kind of de facto secret agent. Unfortunately for the FBI, their lead witness hasn't been quite so forthcoming about helping himself to the corporate coffers. Matt Damon re-unites with 'Ocean's Eleven' director Steven Soderbergh to show off his comedic chops in this crazy story that is based on true events.


Couples Retreat (October 9, 2009)

Starring: Vince Vaughn, Jason Bateman, Jon Favreau, Malin Akerman, Kristin Davis, Kristen Bell
Director: Peter Billingsley
Plot Summary: A group of Midwestern couples embark on a journey to a tropical island resort. While one of the couples is there to work on their marriage, while the others set out to jet ski, spa and enjoy some fun in the sun. Funny guys: comedy duo Favreau & Vaughn and Arrested Development's Jason Bateman + Smokin' hot women: Kristin Davis ('Sex and the City'), Malin Akerman ('Watchmen') and Kristen Bell ('Forgetting Sarah Marshall')...I'm sold.

Amelia (October 23, 2009)

Starring: Hilary Swank, Richard Gere, Ewan McGregor
Director: Mira Nair
Plot Summary: A look at the life of legendary American pilot Amelia Earhart, who disappeared while flying over the Pacific Ocean in 1937 in an attempt to make a flight around the world (comingsoon.net)
