Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince earned an estimated $22.2 million for its 3,003 midnight screenings, beating the previous midnight record of $18.5 million set last summer by the The Dark Knight and the $16.9 million earned by Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith.
The film is already off to a stronger start than the last Harry Potter film, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, which opened on the same Wednesday two years ago. Order of the Phoenix grossed $12 million in midnight runs on its way to posting a five-day total of $139.7 million.

As much as I don't really care for the Harry Potter franchise, this is rather big news. I will definitely be keeping tally on H6's numbers and any other records it might break...and maybe I might actually consider seeing it in a few weeks...
